What is Detox?  What are the benefits?

Why can it be hard on the body?

Sign showing step 1 in Recovery: Detox(Detoxification) is the process your body goes through to get rid of all the Toxins that it has been storing. Once an individual has discontinued the use of their particular substance, their body will begin to react both positively and negatively to the lack of the substance in their system.

Positively: The body begins the detox process, the internal organs are working hard to get rid of the Toxins (the substance that was being used) out of the body. The body is beginning to heal itself and repair any damage that has been done.

Negatively: The body begins to crave because it is experiencing a withdrawal from the Substances it had just grown accustomed too and dependent upon. This is the very reason that most individuals relapse and find themselves using again and this is why attending detox centers can dramatically improve the odds of recovery.

What is Drug or Alcohol Detox and why is it needed?

When a person with a substance abuse problem comes into our Drug/Alcohol Detox Center for help, our first step in the process is to get them off the Drugs or the Alcohol and to get the remaining residual substances out of their systems. Our client-centered approach is on an individual basis and we not only offer a safe place to become substance free, but we offer counseling and support staff to help our clients with their particular withdrawal symptoms. We provide a great environment so that the individual will increase their chances of recovery.

We have seen the withdrawal symptoms many times within our clients and we want to highlight the fact that detoxifying the body is very important and yet an uncomfortable step to living a life free of following the cravings of drugs and alcohol. We feel it is important to not attempt drug detox without the help of professionals at an alcohol detox center due to serious health problems that can be increased during the detoxification process. The symptoms that we are equipped to handle in withdrawal can range depending on the substance used but they commonly include:

Emotional Withdrawal Symptoms

  • Anxiety
  • Restlessness
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Poor concentration
  • Depression
  • Social isolation

Physical Withdrawal Symptoms

  • Sweating
  • Racing heart
  • Palpitations
  • Muscle tension
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Tremor
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

Dangerous Withdrawal Symptoms

Alcohol and tranquilizers produce the most dangerous physical withdrawal. Suddenly stopping alcohol or tranquilizers can lead to seizures, strokes, or heart attacks in high-risk patients. A medically supervised detox can minimize your withdrawal symptoms and reduce the risk of any dangerous complications. Some of the dangerous symptoms of alcohol and tranquilizer withdrawal are as follows:

  • Grand mal seizures
  • Heart attacks
  • Strokes
  • Hallucinations
  • Delirium tremens (DTs)

Heroin and methadone addictions are medically some of the toughest drugs to beat. The physical cravings are so powerful that many addicted individuals maintain usage, to just merely maintain and just not feel sick. Our medically assisted detox for heroin and methadone addiction, gradually tapers a person off, together with a dietary plan which promotes the detox process. The staff trained at alcohol detox centers are available to get you through the medical issues that are a part of the process.
